With the shopping season upon us, retailers usually have their Black Friday, Christmas and New Year shopping promotions planned out. And while this is great, and an important part of the retail calendar, using digital signage for your Black Friday or seasonal promotions can make a huge impact.
In fact studies show that 8 out of 10 shoppers have been drawn to a store because of their digital signage. And, 40% of shoppers have been influenced by digital signage for their purchasing decisions. (Digital signage statistics)
So this is all well and good. But how can you leverage the power of your retail digital signage to make more sales this Black Friday?
1. Create dynamic displays
Sharing your big discount numbers with the words ‘Black Friday’ next to them? Hmm, that might be a good way to show that you’re offering a nice big discount this shopping season. But, to really stand out try using some animation or dynamic displays.
Whether it’s animated images, video of your best selling products or just funky slides of your promoted items, dynamic displays really help differentiate your offer.
With digital signage software such as ScreenCloud, it’s a simple case of accessing one of the many design apps and then uplloading this content to your displays.
You don’t even need to be a design whizz. Use the inbuilt templates, create and upload your own content with Canva or our Canvas app, or better still, use our brand new Quick Post app to share great deals.
2. Share your socials
Chances are you’ve been sharing your Black Friday deals on your social media in the run up to the big day (or weekend, if we’re being honest here). By bringing your social content into your digital signage displays, you can maximize the impact of your social campaigns in-store too.
With tools such as Walls.io or our own Strea.ma app, you can share your own posts, branded hashtags or simply your best performing posts.
Whats more, this content is easy to share by simply connecting these apps to your signage displays. And you even run the added benefit of potentially getting more social followers and post engagement!
3. Share hot deals
Sold out of one product, but looking to push sales towards another? With digital signage you can easily update your displays and highlight specific products - which can be very useful among the action.
While this might sound time consuming, especially among the hustle and bustle of Black Friday itself, it’s actually easy to quickly update your digital signage using our Quick Post app.
With Quick Post, you simply add your text, your image and your preferred styling and your content is shared almost instantly. No need to spend time editing, choosing fonts or making sure you’ve got the right layout.
Simply add your content and push it to your screens for a rapid and effective Black Friday promotion using your digital signage.
4. Take them online
Sometimes its easier to do our Black Friday shopping online. And digital signage can be a great way to guide people to complete their order via your website or other online portal, meaning they don’t miss out on the deal just because they don’t want to or can’t go instore.
Remind people that your offers are still available online, with a handy QR code to take them right to your Black Friday offers page.
This can also be a useful way for people to manage their shopping using click and collect orders too. Add a QR code to your digital signage directing them to the click and collect page, with instructions about the process.
5. Point of sale signage
Those Black Friday checkout queues can be long. So add in some point of sale digital signage to both keep people engaged and, potentially, to upsell some products too.
While well placed products in the queue do often see additional sales. In fact, one study found that products placed by checkouts in retail stores see up to an additional 243% sales! (source)
Digital signage at your point of sale, or within view of the checkout, can help to get eyes on certain products and even drive impulse sales. This is becoming an increasingly popular promotional method by big retailers such as Uniqlo and GAP.
And by using eyecatching video or dynamic displays, retailers can remind people to grab that bargain before they leave the store this Black Friday.

6. Upsell services and warranties
Checkout staff are rushed off their feet on Black Friday - so you can’t always expect them to remember to upsell warranties or add-ons for everything. But for some high priced items adding support or extended warranties is important, or at least it’s important that the customer is aware of the option.
So, displaying the costs or benefits of additional support on that camera purchase, or insurance for that new cellphone, before they get to checkout, can be a huge boost.
Think of it like priming customers and giving them the information they need. So then your employees just need to ask if they’d like to take advantage of the offer.
This is a great use of digital signage in retail settings and can make a big difference to your upsells.
7. Display reviews and testimonials
How often do you think people check reviews before they buy something? In fact, research shows that 8 out of 10 people will search for reviews online while they’re shopping in store. So, why not make their work easier and display those reviews in your store window?
Digital signage for retail can be used to display your star rating on sites such as Google, Facebook, Yelp and TripAdvisor. You can even highlight specific reviews, highlight quotes and testimonials and even link to your reviews pages.
You could also create displays that highlight specific products and their ratings online.
Even amongst the hustle and bustle of Black Friday, use your digital signage to give your shoppers even more reason to grab a bargain in your retail store.
