We all love the power of a good motivational quote. Whether it’s from your favourite entrepreneur, or you scroll past it on Instagram at just the right moment, quotes have the ability to uplift us and improve our day.

So what if you could add those quotes to your gym, school, office digital signage screens and share them with everyone?! This blog covers how to do just that.

If you’re looking to put your motivational quotes up onto a TV screen or monitor, here’s how.

Display quotes on your screens in three steps

1. Choose your motivational quote

If you need to find your inspiration quote, then the internet is full of them. But here are a few simple sources we love to find the perfect nugget of wisdom:

  • Hubspot’s 35 Motivational Quotes to Start your Day - our favorite is “Hire character. Train skill." - Peter Schutz.
  • Instagram Explore - by searching for a hashtag such as “#MondayMotivation” or “#quoteoftheday” you can find visual representations of quotes that you might like to use
  • Pablo by Buffer - Pablo is a neat little tool that allows you to create perfectly sized social media graphics with popular inspirational quotes that you can flick through.

  • Daily Quote app - this iPhone app sends you a push notification each day with a new positive quote. You can select quote categories by hashtag, save your favorite quotes and even add your own.

2. Create your quote for your screen

Once you’ve found your perfect quote (when you know you know, right?) it’s time to get it ready for your screen.

Most standard TVs work on a resolution of full HD which is 1920 x 1080. To create your quote to fit this resolution, simply choose 1920 x 1080 pixels.

This is great if you want to resize a quote you’ve already found, or if you’re designing in a tool such as Canva where you can create a custom image size.

There’s also another way - Quick Post app. In the ScreenCloud App Store Quick Post is free for all users. It helps you autogenerate content for screens rapidly, and get them displayed in very little time.

You can pull the quote from a url, file, or type it out.

Next, you can add a stock image from sites like Unsplash, or upload one from your library.

Then, select a style pack. This will determine what your content looks like.

Here’s an example we made using Quick Post. It took less than two minutes.

3. Add your quote to your screen

If you’ve designed your quote in Noticeboard you can simply select “Add App” and it will be added to your Content Library in ScreenCloud, where you can easily add this to a playlist.

If you’re uploading your own image, simply save it as a jpeg or png and log in or set up a ScreenCloud account (we offer a 14-day free trial).

Once logged in, you’ll need to pair your screen (info on how to do that here).

Next, head to the Content Library and select “Upload” to upload your image. Then that’s it! Your image will be saved in the library and you can easily add it to a playlist so that it displays on screen.

How to design screen-ready quotes for display

With digital signage, you can take almost any content and put it on your screen. And the more love you show your quotes, the better they’ll look. Here are some tips to help you ensure that your quotes are visible, polished, and ready to inspire!

1. Increase readability with contrast

Quotes are often short, but if they’re hard to read, they won’t make an impact. Choose a high-contrast background and text combination. Light text on a dark photo (or the reverse) is usually your best bet. Avoid busy backgrounds unless you plan to add a solid overlay behind your text.

2. Break longer quotes into chunks

Instead of showing a long quote all at once, break it into two or three slides. This gives each part room to breathe and keeps viewers engaged. Bonus: it works well with animated transitions, adding a touch of motion without overwhelming the screen.

3. Stick to one or two fonts

Using more than two font styles can make your design feel chaotic. Pick one font for the quote and one for the author’s name. A serif or script font for the quote can add emotion, while a clean sans serif for the author keeps it grounded.

4. If adding movement, keep it subtle

A slow fade-in or gentle pan can give quotes more presence. But remember to keep animations smooth and minimal. The goal is to draw attention, not distract from the message.

5. Use your brand colors thoughtfully

Quotes are a great place to reinforce your brand; just don’t let it overpower the content. Try using your brand’s accent color for the author’s name or quotation marks while keeping the main text neutral.

6. Test your layout from a distance.

As we share in our rules of digital signage design, most digital signs are viewed from a distance of 7-10 feet away so you don’t want to make your quote so small that no one can read it. Step back and make sure the text is legible, the design feels balanced, and nothing looks cramped.

7. Keep your quotes fresh

You don’t need long to take in all of the goodness of an inspirational quote so a good rule of thumb is to display your quote for less than 30 seconds, particularly if it’s only a line or two. Also, be sure to refresh your quotes often (we recommend every two weeks or monthly at the most) because motivational quotes tend to fade fast.
