Track and Display Outdoor Air Quality in Real Time

Last Updated: 07/22/2025
productivity. While knowing the air quality outside can influence where we take our lunch or whether we take part in the lunchtime running club, it can also be a factor in the workplace.
Increasingly, employers need to consider the air quality at work as part of their legal obligation to their employees. Especially where the workplace includes a significant proportion outside, such as in construction, transportation, or agriculture.
That’s why we’re introducing the Air Quality app. It provides regularly updated local air quality and heat index data based on your selected location. ScreenCloud’s Air Quality app is an unobtrusive way to track air quality and update employees to help meet your legal obligations as regards their health. (US legal obligations/UK legal obligations)
With the Air Quality app, workers can be more environmentally aware while paying attention to other updates you might share on your digital signage screens.

Improve environmental awareness with Air Quality app
The Air Quality app allows your workforce to make better personal and professional decisions without fear or anxiety about outside air quality and temperature conditions. Commuting employees can plan appropriately for heat and limit their outside activities in case of poor air quality. At the same time, outdoor workers can quickly determine when it’s safe to get work done.
Displaying real-time air quality and heat levels on your screens can also empower your team to:
- Safely plan outdoor work schedules
- Determine the safest periods to spend time outdoors during breaks or commutes
- Take precautions like wearing masks or avoiding prolonged exposure
- Engage with other updates on your digital signage screens
Customize your display data

The Air Quality app displays air quality and heat index data that is relevant to your current location. You can input your location manually or toggle “Use Screen Location” to automatically pull data from your screen’s location.
The app also lets you choose the air quality index to pull from: Universal AQI based on the Global Air Quality Index or Local AQI based on the location’s national air quality index.
While setting up your app, you can display it in Celsius or Fahrenheit, depending on which units help your teams quickly understand the information displayed. Finally, you can toggle off the Heat Index to increase focus on the air quality data.
Color-coded data for quick interpretation

The Air Quality app automatically sets the colors based on the environmental air data. For air quality, the colors range from:
- Green: Good air quality with little or no health effects.
- Yellow: Moderate air quality with potential health risks for unusually sensitive individuals
- Orange: Unhealthy air quality likely to affect sensitive individuals
- Red: Unhealthy air likely to affect the general public
- Purple: Very unhealthy air with increased health risks for everyone
- Maroon: Hazardous air quality with a high chance that everyone could be affected.
The Heat Index is also color-coded as follows:
- Yellow: Caution.
- Yellow-Orange: Extreme caution.
- Orange: Danger.
- Red: Extreme danger.
Easily display on screens in multiple locations
You can set up the app on screens across all your locations without creating individual app instances by toggling the “Use Screen Location” switch during setup. This way, the app will use the location of each screen it’s displayed, ensuring accurate information for your teams, regardless of where they view it.
Increase engagement by incorporating other screen content

The Air Quality app is compatible with our channel and zone layout support for the Canva app. It can be displayed in the main zone and as a sidebar.
Now, your teams can glean the environmental data, plan for a more productive day, and engage with other announcements and updates on your screen.
