This month we’re kicking things off with Jonny Price.

How do you see AI shaping the future of software testing?
I actually see software testing becoming more and more paramount as AI progresses. We’re moving into a phase where so much code is being outsourced to AI, and that naturally increases the chance of bugs and hidden risks. AI is great at generating volume, but it can struggle with context, which leads to instability. We’re already seeing the impact of this—while "five nines" (99.999% uptime) is the gold standard, some major vendors are struggling to maintain even 90% lately. Even a giant like GitHub saw significant uptime dips in late 2025 as the volume of code started to outpace the infrastructure.

That said, AI has been a huge positive for us when used correctly. Our team built a great reporting tool for all our automation, and AI really helped us win a software testing award for Most Innovative Project last year—something we wouldn't have been able to pull together so quickly otherwise.

The role of a tester has changed so much from heavy manual work to being able to automate much faster. So, while developers are shipping code quicker, we’re keeping up by testing more effectively and efficiently. But you still have to keep a close eye on it. You have to make sure tests don’t just "pass" for the sake of it; it’s important to be able to stand over your work, understand exactly what the tests are executing, and ensure that AI assistance doesn't replace human accountability.


Are there any specific books, podcasts, or resources you rely on to keep sharpening your skills?

I stay sharp by keeping a pretty consistent rotation of resources. For my day-to-day work, I really value the Test Guild Automation Podcast with Joe Colantonio; it’s my main way of staying up to date with testing and the community. Beyond that, I really recommend The Blindboy Podcast. It’s essentially a masterclass in storytelling—he weaves together history, psychology, and mental health in a way that’s really meditative. It’s a great "brain reset" that offers a completely different perspective outside of the tech bubble. When it comes to new tech, I use AI as a partner to stay curious. I’ll ask it for information or have it search the internet for useful resources and articles on whatever topic I’m digging into. I also rely a lot on community—I’m in a WhatsApp group where we’re always sharing latest news, and the AI channels in the company Slack are a great source for seeing varying content and keeping up with how fast everything is changing.


How do you maintain focus and balance between work and personal time?

For me, focus is all about routine. I log in by 8:30 AM in my dedicated home office, but when the workday ends, my focus shifts entirely to my kids. They keep me on my toes, and I make it a point to keep the phones away. I love working in tech, but I’m a big believer in minimal screen time for my children, so switching off the devices helps me stay present for the things that matter most.


What’s your all-time favorite movie?
That is a really tough one so I’m going to say two Spirited Away and Lord Of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring


If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
I’d choose teleportation. But I’d need to be able to take other people with me, not just myself!
